I was enchanted to meet you Monday, March 12, 2012 8:41 PM
Mark Zuckerberg blogs when he's drunk. I blog when I'm tickled pink.

There's a line in Taylor Swift's Enchanted that goes like this: "I was enchanted to meet you" and those were the exact words wanting to come out from my pink-colored lips that night. Of course, it would freak someone if I uttered those 6 words on the day we were introduced and so I went with the usual "It was nice to meet you, TOO" (emphasis on the word TOO since he said it first).

And here's how it happened. I was on my way out and was still talking to someone when Mrs. Cupid asked me "Hey Jerica! Have you met 'Future'?" And the next thing I knew, we were exchanging handshakes and saying those 6 words. I didn't say much 'cause I was wonderstruck (let me borrow Taylor's words for this blogpost). I always see him around and we exchange smiles and that's all. He smiled the first time he heard me speak tagalog. I've been really waiting for us to get introduced to each other and tonight is my lucky night.

Please don't be in love with someone else
Please don't have somebody waiting on you

And yesterday, our cars are parked next to each other. It got me singing "and you know I wanna ask you to dance right there in the middle of the parking lot (headbang)." (wagas sa pagka-fan girl at ang kilig)

Blissful night indeed! I just had to write down my thoughts and it would be nice to read this all over again. Maybe we'll read this together in the future, who knows? :)

Promotion... finally! Wednesday, February 8, 2012 11:12 PM
I just came from Church tonight and I found the lesson very interesting. It was very timely. I just wanna share a verse from Job.

Job 23:8-17

8“But if I go to the east, he is not there;
if I go to the west, I do not find him.
9 When he is at work in the north, I do not see him;
when he turns to the south, I catch no glimpse of him.
10 But he knows the way that I take;
when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.
11 My feet have closely followed his steps;
I have kept to his way without turning aside.
12 I have not departed from the commands of his lips;
I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.
13 “But he stands alone, and who can oppose him?
He does whatever he pleases.
14 He carries out his decree against me,
and many such plans he still has in store.
15
That is why I am terrified before him;
when I think of all this, I fear him.
16
God has made my heart faint;
the Almighty has terrified me.
17
Yet I am not silenced by the darkness,
by the thick darkness that covers my face.

As the minister explained, there was a time when Job didn't feel God's presence, a time when God didn't answer his prayers. But, it didn't hinder him from serving and believing in whatever God can do. It made me realize that when God doesn't answer our prayers, it doesn't mean that He doesn't hear us, He has something better in store for us. He has the perfect timing. He provides us with what we need even before we ask for it.

I know, just a couple of months ago, I'm dying to look for another job. I never had the courage to do so... maybe because I wasn't sure. I asked God for his guidance and just a few days after, he answered my prayer. That week, I had my performance review and I heard just good words. And my manager even mentioned that he already submitted my promotion review. I was in awe.

Just yesterday (February 7, 2012), I got a call from my manager saying that my promotion was approved. Aside from the good looking new title that comes with it, Senior Associate, of course, the much awaited salary increase is like the cherry on top!

Why I Told My Daughter to Quit Her Job Wednesday, January 25, 2012 11:56 AM
I read the article Why I Told My Daughter to Quit Her Job by Holly Robinson and almost got teary-eyed. If it only came my way few days earlier, I would have made that giant leap. But my prayers are so loud that God heard it right away and gave me the answer I've been waiting for. And I realized that it isn't the right time to send out my CV and make those companies go gaga over me (LOL).

Everyday, my mom sees how I work hard and that day was the hardest in 1 year and 8 months. See saw how I struggle every single day to get out of bed to work. She saw how many lunches I skipped just to finish the requests I call. She saw how many times I get up earlier than my schedule just to start on requests that are due soon. She saw how many celebrations I missed for working on Saturdays and on some holidays. She heard every single rant I had. And she knew how badly I wanted to get a new job. 2 Saturdays ago, was one hell day for me at work. I received tons of requests and a huge leftover request from last night is like the cherry on top of an awful-tasting sundae. She finally said, "Magresign ka na nga." BOOM! That's the exact same thought I had in my head.

"Life is too short to be miserable for money," I told her finally. "Just quit. Take the barista job and figure out something else while you're making lattes."

I was almost ready to look for another job. But there's a part of me asking if it's really the best move. And just like old times, I prayed. Whenever I'm unsure, that's what I do coz I know He's never unsure and He always has the answer. He didn't fail me, He never did.

I had my performance review, and I now know that my efforts are recognized. I heard just nice words and that's enough for me to stay a little longer.

Saving Moolah! 10:30 AM

According to Washington Post, To Save Money is the 2nd most popular NY Resolution. Ooohh yeah, nothing can beat To Lose Weight. I guess, I think just like how most everyone thinks, I wanna save money.

One of my resolutions this new year is to refrain from going to the mall and checking online shops. I'm doing well given that we are in the first 25 days of the year and I haven't bought a single piece of clothing, a pair of shoes nor a new bag. However, I have to torture myself and go to malls to buy some presents (lots of birthdays this month and we sent a balikbayan box). My heart broke when I entered Forever 21 and looked for some presents coz I knew I don't need new clothes for myself. It was torture. All I saw were clothes I liked :'( but I survived.

When I went home, I realized that I don't need to buy clothes every time and I shouldn't buy things I don't need. They may be pretty, but a chubby bank account is more appealing to my eyes.

Another resolution I have for this year is To Keep Track of All My Expenses. And so I made a Bills Tracker!

With this pink and purple sheet of paper, I can list down all my expenses and see where I'm spending most of my money. In that way, I know where I can cut back if there's a way to. Did you see how big the space was for shopping? I hope I won't be able to fill that up!

I'll be making a Savings Tracker as well. It would be nice to keep track of how much I am saving paycheck after paycheck. I had just one paycheck as of today and I was able to transfer 53.33% of it to my Savings Account. This tip helped me last year. Whenever there's new money coming in to my checking account, I estimate how much I'll be paying for bills that will come due before the next paycheck comes in. I keep a little on my checking account for unforeseen expenses and for things I want to buy. And the rest goes directly to the Savings Account. When it's there, I can't do anything with it unless my Checking Balance is close to zero.

I hope I can keep up with all of these this year. These resolutions don't have to be so hard unless I'll see flashy signs in bright red with those 4 letters all ladies love, SALE. It's tempting to buy new clothes and sexy shoes, but the thought of having a chubby bank account in hard economic times is sexier.

Chinese Zodiac - Snake Thursday, January 19, 2012 3:09 PM

I've been watching Kris TV lately and they are tackling about the animal signs and their luck in the new year. It made me more curious about my animal sign, Snake. Before, all I knew was I'm born in the Year of the Snake and the sign compatible with a Snake is an Ox. :)

So, I did some research and found out that 1989 is the Year of the Earth Snake. And below is a detailed description of those born in the Year of the Snake.

And, you can get yours here:

Personality

Occupying the 6th position in the Chinese Zodiac, the Snake symbolizes such character traits as intelligence, gracefulness and materialism. When it comes to decision-making, Snakes are extremely analytical and as a result, they don’t jump into situations. They are effective at getting the things they want, even if it means they have to scheme and plot along the way. - uhmmm.. I love schemes!

Snakes are very materialistic creatures, preferring to surround themselves with the finest that life has to offer. This is especially evident in the home, where luxurious furnishings and surroundings help Snakes seek the peace they need in order to thrive. - This is not true for all those born in the Year of the Snake. I'M NOT MATERIALISTIC!

Health

Snakes prefer living a life of calmness, preferring quietness over noise and a manageable workload rather than a schedule that’s overly-booked. Snakes become easily stressed when their lives aren’t peaceful or in order. Too much of this way of life can shorten a snake’s life! - HAHAHA yeah! I'm easily stressed!

Career

Snakes do work very hard, but they have a tendency to be job-hoppers as they become easily bored. Their somewhat laid-back attitude causes them to be mistakenly categorized as slackers, but nothing could be further from the truth! Snakes are very creative and extremely diligent. They’re excellent problem-solvers and thrive under tight deadlines. Good career choices for Snakes include: scientist, analyst, investigator, painter, potter, jeweler, astrologer, magician, dietician, and sociologist.- Job hopper?? Who? Me?? Maybe.

Relationships

Snakes are excellent seducers so they never have trouble attracting others. However, they’ll be the ones to decide when a relationship has potential and when it does not. Once they’ve chosen a partner, a Snake’s insecure side will begin to show through. Snakes guards their chosen partners much like a prized possessions, becoming jealous and even obsessive. Snakes prefer to keep their feelings to themselves. It’s important to never betray a Snake’s trust as a betrayed snake will make it a goal to get even some day! - Guys, beware.

Snakes and the 5 elements

Metal Snake – Years 1941 and 2001

Incredibly goal-oriented, Metal Snakes will stop at nothing to get that which they believe they deserve. Failure is not in their vocabularies. With their money, they’re continually acquiring more and more possessions – for themselves.

Water Snake – Years 1953 and 2013

Influential, motivated, insightful, and highly intellectual are words that best characterize Water Snakes. These Snakes work well with others and enjoy being recognized and rewarded. They’ll reveal feelings to those closest to them, but no one else.

Wood Snake – Years 1905 and 1965

Kind and genuine, these Snakes enjoy building a solid foundation of friends and family whom they love deeply and whose company they enjoy immensely. But even with all this support, Wood Snakes rarely seek the advice of others.

Fire Snake – Years 1917 and 1977

Fire Snakes are more extroverted, forever offering opinions and telling others what’s on their minds. Even so, others enjoy listening to Fire Snakes. They’re very persuasive and are especially good at convincing others that their ways are best.

Earth Snakes – Years 1929 and 1989

Earth Snakes always seem to be calm and content. They’re friendly and approachable and believe that they’ll reap great rewards by working hard and relying on common sense.

Compatibility

The Snake is compatible with a Rooster and an Ox and incompatible with a Pig and a Monkey.

- oh no! Future is a Pig!
